“There are two great days in a person’s life:

The day we are born and the day

we prove why we were born.

Best wishes for the second one!!”

Julia T. Cobb’s Crown of Life:

Julia, a.k.a. “JuCan” and her BFF sister Jenna, were honored to have been invited by the Gutierrez Family to the Miss Houston and Miss Houston Teen pageant in 2012 when Ju was just 2 months into her treatment for a very rare bone tissue cancer Ewing’s sarcoma. Our girls were immediately “adopted” and enveloped with such love and care from our pageant family throughout our entire journey. Many of the girls took a personal interest in Ju and Jenna and provided an escape from their “cancer world” which included trips to eat, making pottery, pumpkin patches, Build-A-Bear, making ornaments, cooking, trips to concerts and sporting events, and that’s just to name a few! Many girls have done so much in secret including visiting Ju during her surgeries and chemotherapies at MD Anderson, celebrating her treatment milestones, her birthday, private hospital room parties, multiple trips to see her at St. Jude in Memphis, and then finally her “going home” celebration. Our family has witnessed and continues to see the shining examples of character and inward beauty from these young women. Their mentoring and influence on our children has been a once in a lifetime rarity and truly special.

The Cobb Family wishes to thank ALL of the pageant girls, their families and the Miss Texas Teen USA pageant organization who made monetary donations and other gifts from their hearts during Ju’s very courageous and heart wrenching journey. Your prayers have and continue to comfort us. Our entire family made lifelong friendships that have sustained us in our darkest hours and Denise O’Brian has given us memories that we will treasure forever. Ju and Jenna were invited to every pageant, walked the runway, escorted from the Ronald McDonald House to Miss Kemah in a pink stretch limo, both crowned Little Miss Kemah(s) 2012 and given the keys to the city. Denise made a little 8 year old girl’s dreams come true! Thank you for Ju’s earthly crown- we will cherish it forever!

“She who leaves a trail of glitter is never forgotten” (anonymous). Ju leaves a legacy of love, empathy and resilience behind. Her JuCan Foundation was her heart’s passion and carries on her “UCan” message of hope to families who are fighting cancer. She is now imploring YOU to carry on her spirit raising money for research and awareness for cancer so that a cure can be found and this disease won’t steal the lives of any more precious children!

Congratulations to Logan Lester and Estella Brooks, winners of the 1st annual, “JuCan Spirit Award,” presented at the 2014 Miss Houston USA Pageant.
